My January Journey: An Eye-opening OJT Experience at PSA
My first day as an OJT student at the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) was an insightful introduction to the agency’s role in data management and public service. The day began with an orientation, where I learned about PSA’s functions, office protocols, and the importance of maintaining accurate public records. After the briefing, I was assigned basic administrative tasks such as sorting and organizing documents, encoding public records into the system, and familiarizing myself with different record categories. Through data encoding, I realized how crucial accuracy and attention to detail are in maintaining reliable information. This initial experience gave me a better grasp of how structured documentation and efficient data management contribute to effective public service. It also allowed me to develop organizational skills and gain confidence in handling official records.
During my On-the-Job Training (OJT) at the PSA, I had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various administrative and customer service tasks. My responsibilities included sorting and filing public records, encoding essential data, and assisting at the front desk to provide customer support. Beyond office tasks, I was also involved in fieldwork activities such as assisting clients with their concerns, verifying data for accuracy, and ensuring that records were properly maintained. These experiences allowed me to develop valuable skills in organization, communication, and attention to detail.
In my second week of training, I was assigned to the BREQS (Batch Request Entry Query System) Office, which handles government requests such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, and Certificates of No Marriage (CENOMAR). This transition provided me with deeper exposure to government transactions and the importance of efficiently processing civil registry documents. I assisted clients in filing requests, verified documents for accuracy, and ensured that applications met the required guidelines. This experience reinforced my understanding of how public records play a vital role in legal and administrative matters, further enhancing my skills in customer service, data verification, and document processing.
This training not only exposed me to the critical role of national statistics but also deepened my understanding of how accurate data collection and management contribute to effective policymaking and improved public services. It was a meaningful experience that enhanced both my technical and interpersonal skills, preparing me for future professional endeavors.
